Keeneland Race Course and Maker’s Mark Kentucky Bourbon have joined forces to launch a decade-spanning whiskey series celebrating the remarkable legacy of past racing thoroughbreds. Dubbed the “Greats of the Gate” series, each year will spotlight a different iconic horse from racing history, with the inaugural release paying homage to the legendary Man o’War, whose dominance on the track made him one of the most celebrated racehorses of all time.
A Tribute to Racing Royalty
Man o’War, renowned for his extraordinary record of 20 wins out of 21 races, will be immortalized in the first release of the series. The limited-edition whiskey will grace the shelves of select Kentucky retailers starting this October, adorned with an exquisite illustration by local artist Tyler Robertson. The striking yellow and black label pays homage to Man o’War’s distinctive racing colors, ensuring that each bottle is a fitting tribute to the equine legend.
Supporting Kentucky’s Heritage
Proceeds from the sales of each bottle in the “Greats of the Gate” series will be dedicated to supporting nonprofits that uphold Kentucky’s rich heritage in hospitality, arts, and the horse racing industry. Maker’s Mark Managing Director, Rob Samuels, emphasizes the brand’s commitment to giving back to the community and expresses gratitude for the opportunity to partner with Keeneland in this meaningful endeavor.
A Legacy of Collaboration
The collaboration between Keeneland and Maker’s Mark dates back decades, with both entities sharing a deep-rooted commitment to philanthropy and service. Over the first three years of the series, proceeds will benefit organizations such as Kentucky Harvest, Arts Center of the Bluegrass, and Blue Grass Farms Charities (BGFC), which provides vital support to individuals working in the thoroughbred industry.
Celebrating Tradition and Innovation
Maker’s Mark’s dedication to horse racing extends beyond the “Greats of the Gate” series, as evidenced by their previous partnerships, including the exclusive Private Selection Experience with the Breeder’s Cup. This ongoing commitment reflects the brand’s passion for honoring tradition while embracing innovation in the pursuit of excellence.
A Shared Mission of Service
Keeneland President and CEO, Shannon Arvin, expresses pride in the enduring partnership between Keeneland and Maker’s Mark, highlighting their shared mission of service and philanthropy.
