We had the opportunity to taste Clydebuilt 12 Years Old Sherry Cask Matured, a bottle kindly provided by the Ardgowan Distillery for the purpose of preparing this tasting note. At the outset, we would like to thank Mairi for sending the bottle and giving us the opportunity to spend some time with this release.
The whisky was tasted together with one of the co-creators of WhiskyUpdates.com, allowing for an exchange of impressions and a considered discussion around the style and character of the whisky.
Nose
Upfront sweet sherry notes, with dried fruits, toffee, and a touch of chocolate. There’s also a gentle oakiness and a hint of spice, giving a warm, inviting first impression without being overpowering.
Taste
Smooth and balanced. Sherry sweetness comes through first, followed by caramel, raisins, and soft baking spices. The alcohol is well integrated, making this an easy and enjoyable sip rather than a challenging one.
Finish
Medium length and warming, with lingering sweet spice, oak, and a light dryness that gently fades away, leaving the palate clean and ready for another sip.
Final Thoughts
