Douglas Laing Unveils Inaugural Strathearn Single Malt

Douglas Laing, the esteemed independent bottler, is proud to unveil its latest creation: the Strathearn Single Malt.

Strathearn Joins the Douglas Laing Family

In a strategic move back in October 2019, Douglas Laing acquired the Perthshire microdistillery, Strathearn, setting the stage for this momentous debut.

The Making of Strathearn Single Malt

Crafted from a selection of 32 casks, the Strathearn Single Malt embodies a harmonious blend of ex-Bourbon, virgin, and ex-Sherry casks. These casks, a combination of those acquired during the purchase and those filled under Douglas Laing’s ownership, contribute to the whisky’s unique character.

Operated under the attentive eye of lead distiller Angela Brown, Strathearn prides itself on its artisanal approach. The microdistillery operates without automation, allowing for a hands-on, meticulous process. One of its defining features is the remarkably long fermentation time of 144 hours, resulting in the signature fruity character of Strathearn’s whisky. Each spirit cut is carefully determined by human senses alone, with only one barrel filled per day. Furthermore, the exclusive use of Maris Otter malt imparts a creamy and malty flavor to the whisky, adding to its artisanal charm.
