The Macallan’s latest release, A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera, draws on southern Spanish traditions that blend reflections on the past year with celebrations for the future. Matured in a combination of European and American Sherry-seasoned oak casks, crafted to The Macallan’s specifications, this single malt whisky is bottled at 43% ABV and launches today at an RRP of £110.
Inspired by the Spanish custom of eating 12 grapes for good fortune on New Year’s Eve and pestiños, a traditional sweet pastry with anise and honey, the whisky captures rich, sweet flavors on the palate, including notes of pastry, grapes, and anise.
Steven Bremner, The Macallan whisky maker, emphasized the profound connection between Jerez’s heritage of Sherry wine and The Macallan: “Jerez plays a crucial role in The Macallan’s past, but also present and future. This combination of European and American Sherry-seasoned casks has enabled us to bring the flavors and traditions of Jerez’s New Year celebrations to life.”
To complement this spirit’s story, Jerez native artist María Melero designed the packaging, incorporating symbols of the Sherry wine vineyards, a crimson sunset sky, and the traditional azulejos tiles of Jerez. The outer packaging showcases a vivid sunset, roses that grow in the vineyards, and icons like casks, stills, oranges, and vine leaves—all rooted in The Macallan’s connection to Jerez. The inner display continues the journey, featuring grape motifs and celebrating meaningful elements of both Jerez and The Macallan.
A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera is now available via Macallan website, promising a memorable addition to 200th anniversary celebrations and capturing the essence of Jerez’s traditions and landscapes.
