The London Distillery Company launches The Golden Union: Release No.1

The London Distillery Company has unveiled The Golden Union: Release No.1 – A Field in England, the first release in a new series of English blended malt whiskies.

The expression combines the distillery’s own malt whisky with single malt from Adnams Distillery in Southwold. The Golden Union series will feature malt whiskies sourced from across English distilleries, matured in a variety of cask types.

This debut bottling brings together multiple vintages, aged in different casks including hogsheads, and is bottled at 50% ABV. The whisky offers aromas of creamy toffee, buttery corn, breakfast cereals, meringue, and waxed lemons, with earthy undertones. The palate reveals preserved lemons, ripening mango, white pepper, milk chocolate, oats, and buttered toast.

Matt McKay, managing director and whisky maker at TLDC, commented:

“At TLDC, we’ve long believed in the potential of English whisky. And with The Golden Union, we’re proud to celebrate that belief by launching a series that puts English malt whisky – in all its diversity – centre stage.

For decades, whisky lovers have looked to Scotland, Ireland, and Japan for expressions of elegance and complexity in blending. Now, England has joined that conversation with confidence.”

England is now home to over 50 licensed whisky distilleries, and according to McKay, “what sets English whisky apart is precisely the freedom of textures, techniques, and philosophies – the absence of rigid expectations.”

The Golden Union: Release No.1 will be available from the distillery’s website and select retailers from 30 June 2025, priced at £49.95 (US$68).

📌 The reveal follows the release of Renascence, which last month became the distillery’s first whisky earlier this year.
