The GlenAllachie Releases First-Ever Meikle Tòir Single Cask Bottlings

The GlenAllachie Distillery has announced the debut single cask releases from its peated single malt range, Meikle Tòir. Selected by Master Distiller Billy Walker, the two limited editions showcase the bold, smoky style of Meikle Tòir enhanced by full sherry cask maturation.

The first release is a 2018 Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead (#11569), available exclusively at the distillery. Matured for seven years in a first-fill PX cask, it delivers rich layers of fig jam, toasted hazelnuts, honeyed spice, dark chocolate, and marzipan warmth. Bottled at 59.9% ABV and 44PPM, this expression is limited to just 355 bottles.

The second release is a 2019 Oloroso Sherry Hogshead (#8729), offered exclusively through the GlenAllachie online shop. Aged six years in a single Oloroso hogshead, it balances Meikle Tòir’s peated core with aromas of soft tobacco, fig, and orange, leading to flavours of mocha, grilled honeycomb, and smoked fruits. Bottled at 60.5% ABV and 47PPM, this release is limited to 357 bottles.

Both whiskies are non-chill filtered, natural in colour, and crafted using mainland peat from St Fergus, known for producing a sweeter, oakier smoke than Islay peat. The distillation process includes a 160-hour fermentation—nearly triple the industry average—resulting in enhanced fruitiness and depth.

According to Billy Walker:
“These two casks stood out immediately. They reflect the sweet and smoky mainland style we’ve developed for Meikle Tòir, layered with the richness of sherry cask maturation. Bottled at natural cask strength, this is whisky in its most honest form.”

The releases mark an important milestone in the Meikle Tòir range, with further single cask editions expected for international markets. Retail price: £75.99.
