Tamdhu Distillery, owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, has unveiled a 21-year-old single malt as part of its permanent collection, continuing its focus on fully Sherry cask-matured whiskies.
Distilled on the banks of the River Spey since 1897, Tamdhu is known for exclusively using Oloroso Sherry casks for maturation. The new 21-year-old expression is no exception, matured in a combination of European and American oak Sherry casks, crafted in family-run cooperages and Bodegas in Jerez, Spain.
Limited to 12,000 bottles annually, the expression is bottled at 47.5% ABV, non-chill filtered, and presented in an octagonal bottle housed in a royal green gift case with a Spanish-Moorish design, referencing its cask origins. Inside the case, drinkers will find a tasting notes booklet and a gold wood closure topped with a gold-branded capsule.
According to Sandy McIntyre, Tamdhu distillery manager, “Our patience and dedication shine through in every sip of Tamdhu 21-Year-Old. This latest release is a fine example of our commitment to the Spain-to-Speyside journey that every Tamdhu expression benefits from.”
Gordon Dundas, global brand ambassador, added: “This limited ‘coming of age’ release delivers a flavour profile and entirely natural colour that makes this spirit elegant and distinctive.”
The whisky offers aromas of Sherried oak, chocolate, sultanas, mocha, marzipan, and cinnamon porridge oats. On the palate, expect notes of Christmas cake, candied orange, and Sherry-soaked raisins.
The 21-year-old joins Tamdhu’s global portfolio with initial availability in the UK and across Europe, priced at £299 for a 700ml bottle.
