Exciting news from Rosebank Distillery as they unveil the final release in their esteemed Legacy Series: a 32-year-old Scotch whisky. To celebrate this momentous occasion, the distillery commissioned a bespoke orchestral composition inspired by the exquisite flavors of this exceptional whisky.
Teaming up with acclaimed composer Des Oliver, Rosebank distilled the essence of their 32-year-old Scotch into “Rosebank Reawakening” a captivating musical piece performed by the renowned contemporary orchestra, Chineke!
This unique musical creation marks the culmination of Rosebank’s inaugural global series under the stewardship of Ian Macleod Distillers and commemorates the revival of Rosebank Distillery, which opens its doors to the public later this summer after more than three decades of silence.
Des Oliver, known for his work with the London Symphony Orchestra and holding a doctorate in composition from Oxford University, immersed himself in the world of Rosebank. Guided by Blender Emma Oakes and Distillery Manager Malcolm Rennie, Des drew inspiration from the rare 32-year-old whisky to craft a musical journey mirroring the spirit’s complexity.
Des Oliver shared his insights on the composition:
“The composition evolves like a tasting experience, capturing different facets of the whisky’s flavor profile—from smooth richness to subtle oak and spice. It’s a sonic representation of the Rosebank 32-year-old, inviting listeners to embark on a sensory adventure.“
Malcolm Rennie, Distillery Manager, expressed his enthusiasm for the release:
“I am thrilled to announce the arrival of Rosebank 32-year-old. This whisky embodies the essence that earned Rosebank the title of ‘King of the Lowlands’ and signifies a new era for our distillery. Collaborating with Des and Chineke! has been an incredible experience, and their musical interpretation adds a magical dimension to the whisky tasting.“
Crafted from limited casks preserved before the distillery’s closure, Rosebank 32-year-old boasts a complex flavor profile with notes of pineapples, candied ginger, lemon, marzipan, white pepper, and coffee. The palate offers a velvety texture with hints of malt, thyme, butterscotch, and tropical fruits, culminating in a soft, lingering finish of lemon, honeyed porridge, and toasted walnuts.
Innovatively, each bottle of Rosebank 32-year-old features Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology, allowing consumers to verify authenticity and access exclusive content using their smartphones.
This distinguished expression has an ABV of 47.6% and will be available for purchase at Rosebank Distillery website starting May 13, 2024, at 9am for £2,100.
