New Angel’s Envy Rye Finished in Tequila Casks Joins Cellar Collection Series

One of the most innovative American distilleries of the last decade, Angel’s Envy in Louisville, Kentucky, is once again pushing boundaries. Founded by the late Lincoln Henderson and now under the guidance of Master Distiller Owen Martin, the brand has unveiled its latest limited-edition expression: Cellar Collection Vol. 5 – a straight rye whiskey finished in French oak casks that previously held Extra Añejo tequila.

Set to release in the US on May 31, 2025, this marks the first Cellar Collection edition developed entirely under Martin’s leadership. The whiskey blends a 7-year-old rye, finished for up to 12 months in tequila casks, with an 11-year-old rye, creating a layered and balanced profile.

Martin personally selected the casks during a visit to Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco, Mexico, where he collaborated with Patrón Tequila’s Master Distiller David Rodriguez. The goal: to explore parallels between whiskey and tequila production and highlight how finishing casks can enhance the base spirit’s complexity.

According to official tasting notes, the whiskey presents floral and fruity aromas, touches of toasted vanilla, smoky clove, and a spice-forward character balanced by herbal agave, tobacco, and brown sugar. The French oak finish contributes a smooth texture with hints of orange blossom honey and tropical fruits.

Packaged in a special presentation box, the bottle features agave-inspired motifs reflecting the fusion of American whiskey and Mexican tequila craftsmanship.
