Mossburn Distillers & Blenders has announced the release of a limited edition 12-Year-Old blended malt, finished in Calvados casks, marking a unique collaboration with the renowned Calvados producer Domaine Dupont from Normandy, France. Domaine Dupont is internationally acclaimed for its production of French apple brandy.
While Mossburn and Domaine Dupont have had various partnerships over the decades, this marks their first-ever joint whisky release. The Speyside blend was initially aged for 12 years in ex-bourbon casks before being re-casked in French oak barrels previously used for Calvados and Pommeau. The whisky is bottled at a robust 57.2% ABV and carries an RRP of £65.
The resulting dram is described as a delicate and well-rounded blend, with subtle hints of apple sweetness complementing the heather and cereal notes typical of Speyside whisky. It brings a smooth and complex palate, transitioning from fruit-driven flavors to a layered finish.
This release is part of Mossburn’s annual Cask Collaboration Series, now in its second year. Last year’s edition featured a 12-Year-Old Blended Malt finished in Foursquare Rum casks, continuing Mossburn’s tradition of innovative cask finishes.
Neil Macleod Mathieson, whisky maker at Mossburn Distillery & Blenders, shared his thoughts on the collaboration: “When it comes to collaborative projects, it’s always a pleasure to turn to old friends. Having worked with the Dupont family for over 30 years and appreciating the finesse with which they incorporate oak into their Calvados, I knew their coopered casks would have a remarkable effect on a Speyside malt, accentuating its floral and heathery characteristics.“
