Irish Distillers has unveiled the second limited-edition release in its prestigious Midleton Very Rare Forêt de Tronçais range. This expression, bottled at 48% ABV, is a blended Irish whiskey crafted from single grain and single pot still whiskeys. These components were originally aged in American bourbon barrels between the 1980s and early 2000s before undergoing an additional five-year maturation in French Tronçais oak barrels.
Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman elaborated on the significance of this release:
“The second edition of Midleton Very Rare Forêt de Tronçais adds a new dimension to the foundation we have built. This time, we have increased the proportion of pot still whiskey while also enhancing the refill-cask element. The extended maturation allows the pot still distillate to fully express itself, introducing layers of complexity with stone fruitiness and soft clove spice on the nose, alongside a creamy and mouth-watering taste profile. The influence of T5 oak over four years elevates this liquid, imparting herbaceous and floral notes with flavors of caramel, toffee, and cinnamon. We’re proud to innovate while staying true to the essence of Midleton Very Rare.”
Priced at £4,388 (approximately €5,275), this luxurious whiskey will be available at select retailers later this month, offering collectors and enthusiasts a chance to explore another chapter in the celebrated Midleton Very Rare series.
