Loch Lomond Whiskies, known for its innovative approach and official status as The Spirit of The Open, has unveiled two limited-edition single malts to celebrate the 153rd Open Championship, held this year at Royal Portrush.
The releases include:
- The Open Course Collection 2025 (22 Years Old, 46.7% ABV, RRP £250)
- The Open Special Edition 2025 (46% ABV, RRP £45)
Created to honour the people, players, and courses that shape The Open’s rich history, both bottlings continue the distillery’s long-standing collaboration with golf’s oldest major.
The Open Course Collection 2025 was crafted by Loch Lomond’s master blender Michael Henry using the distillery’s signature straight-neck stills, offering greater control over the whisky’s final flavour. The 22-year-old single malt was matured in American oak barrels and hogsheads, before being finished in first-fill Spanish oak casks—a tribute to the ship La Girona from the Spanish Armada, which sank off the coast of Portrush in 1588. The result is a whisky with notes of cinnamon, spice, honey, soft smoke, and fruit.
Meanwhile, The Open Special Edition 2025 explores the influence of first-fill Tuscan Chianti wine casks. Aged initially in American oak before an eight-month finish in Chianti casks, the whisky builds on Loch Lomond’s house style with added richness and ripe red fruit character.
Both expressions were developed in partnership with Colin Montgomerie, who remains a long-time ambassador for the brand. His signature appears on each bottle.

Both bottlings are non-chill filtered and natural in colour, maintaining the whisky’s integrity. The Open Special Edition 2025 is also available in a gift pack with dual-branded Loch Lomond Whiskies and The Open glasses, retailing for £50.
