Littlemill 47-Year-Old The Vanguards Collection Chapter 2

Littlemill, Scotland’s oldest licensed distillery, has just released its oldest age statement to date – Littlemill 47 Year Old The Vanguards Collection Chapter 2. This exceptional single malt, distilled in 1976, marks the second release in the annual Vanguards Collection, offering a glimpse into the distillery’s rich history and the innovation behind its spirit.

Following its closure in 1994 and the unfortunate fire in 2004, the remaining casks have been carefully preserved. Now, after 47 years of maturation, this release celebrates Jane Macgregor, one of the first women to hold a distillery license in the 1820s. Under her pioneering leadership, Littlemill flourished, and she became a trailblazer for women in whisky.

Aged initially in refill bourbon barrels and later transferred into refill American oak hogsheads, this rare whisky presents delicate floral and fruity aromas of elderflower, crisp apple, and pear, with honey and nutmeg notes and a silky mouthfeel.

To honor Jane’s legacy, Littlemill collaborated with glass artist Bethany Wood, who crafted 250 unique glass stoppers inspired by Jane’s journey. Each stopper, an artistic creation in its own right, is housed alongside the whisky in a stunning Glencairn Crystal decanter, featuring intricate cuts symbolizing the barriers broken by both Jane and Bethany.

Master Blender Michael Henry remarked: “This whisky embodies Littlemill’s delicate, summer-like signature style and serves as a tribute to the unsung heroes who shaped the distillery.”

Priced at £14,500, only 250 bottles of this 47 Year Old single malt are available worldwide, offering whisky connoisseurs a rare opportunity to savor a piece of history.
