Glenmorangie Unveils Moscatel-Matured Whisky Exclusive to Australia and New Zealand

Glenmorangie has revealed a rare Moscatel-matured single malt Scotch whisky, released exclusively for Australia and New Zealand, with no plans for availability elsewhere in the world.

The new expression, Glenmorangie 13 Year Old Moscatel Cask, has been created in partnership with The Whisky Club and will be available exclusively to Club Members.

The whisky was crafted by Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director of Distilling, Whisky Creation & Whisky Stocks, a seven-time World’s Best Master Distiller and one of the most influential figures in modern Scotch whisky. For this release, Dr Lumsden selected a previously undisclosed parcel of casks — the first Moscatel dessert wine casks ever filled at Glenmorangie.

Distilled in 2009, these Moscatel casks were originally part of a one-off pilot programme designed to explore and refine what would later become The Nectar d’Or (now aged 16 years). The experiment proved successful, and the casks were left to mature further to reach their full potential.

After a seven-year secondary maturation in Moscatel casks, the whisky now contains liquid that is largely approaching 16 years of age, despite carrying a 13-year-old age statement.

“What you have here is the original prototype and the original experiment,” said Dr Bill Lumsden.
“Instantly there’s a lot of fruit — syrupy sweetness balanced by structure from the French oak these barrels are made from.”

The whisky is bottled non-chill filtered, with no added colour, at 48.2% ABV. Dr Lumsden has confirmed that this release is a true one-off, stating that nothing like it will be made again, reinforcing its guaranteed exclusivity.

In the glass, the single malt showcases Glenmorangie’s signature elegance, layered with Moscatel-influenced notes of strawberry creams, chocolate orange, vanilla custard, baked apples, dark spice, and light floral aromatics.

Seamus Carroll, General Manager of The Whisky Club, commented:
“A Whisky Club release allows the world’s best whiskymakers to create something truly unprecedented. These hidden parcels, personal projects and exceptional cask selections become releases like this. It’s a whisky that will remind long-time fans why they fell in love with Glenmorangie, while offering newcomers a genuinely unrepeatable single malt.”

Glenmorangie 13 Year Old Moscatel Cask will be released as The Whisky Club’s January Whisky of the Month, launching on Friday 9 January, exclusively to members in Australia and New Zealand.
