The Glasgow Distillery has introduced a new permanent expression to its core range: Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky. This six-year-old unpeated whisky is crafted from the distillery’s signature double-distilled spirit and undergoes a detailed dual maturation process—three years and ten months in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, followed by two years and ten months in ruby port hogsheads.
The result is a bold and fruity single malt, bottled at 55% ABV, with notes of dark cherries, summer berries, and rich vanilla. This release builds on the success of a previous limited-edition ruby port finish, which quickly sold out and helped inspire this core range addition.
Positioned between the distillery’s Signature Range—which includes peated, unpeated, and triple-distilled styles—and its Small Batch Series, this expression marks the beginning of a progressively aged series that will evolve in complexity with future batches.
Mike Hayward, founder of The Glasgow Distillery, said:
“Sometimes we find a combination that works perfectly with one of our three core spirit styles, and the great response we’ve seen from our earlier ruby port cask finish made it clear this one deserved a permanent place in our range. This bottling captures the vibrant fruit character that comes from our double-distilled spirit and rich port cask maturation.”
The launch comes in a milestone year for the distillery. In March, it celebrated its 10th anniversary, followed in April by the release of its first 10 Year Old single malt, which sold out in under 20 minutes. On Wednesday, 23rd July, the distillery will open to the public for the first time, debuting its new whisky tour and tasting experience.
Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish is now available from specialist online retailers, priced at £57.
