Bowmore Unveils ARC-54: A 54-Year-Old Whisky in Collaboration with Aston Martin

Bowmore has unveiled the second and final whisky in its ARC series with Aston Martin. Following the release of Bowmore ARC-52 in 2022, the Islay distillery now introduces Bowmore ARC-54.

Bowmore ARC-54, distilled in 1968, is one of the oldest whiskies ever released by Bowmore. It matured in the distillery’s renowned No.1 Vaults, aging in a combination of second-fill European oak sherry casks and third-fill American oak hogsheads—a 61.8% to 38.2% ratio reflecting the golden ratio. After maturation, both casks were married and left to integrate for an additional 15 months.

Dr. Keith Geddes, Master Blender at Bowmore, commented:

“A Bowmore as exquisite and complex as this 54-year-old is a testament to the skill of our distillery team, but it is also the embodiment of what can be achieved by simply slowing down, standing still, and allowing things to develop in their own time.

“This rare release truly showcases how Bowmore matures exceptionally with age, with unparalleled precision and clarity. As guardians of this spirit, we strive to harness the power of the past in every drop we create—while continuously reimagining Bowmore for the next generation of whisky lovers.”

Tasting notes promise a layered and refined experience:

  • Nose: Sweet, syrupy vanilla merges with soft toffee and buttery shortbread, followed by tropical notes of mango and ripe peach.
  • Palate: Sweet fruit transitions into freshly sliced green apple, bright citrus notes of bergamot and lime juice, and hints of salted caramel. Subtle floral aromas emerge, with the signature Bowmore smoke appearing only in the finish.
  • Finish: Long, smooth, and intensely juicy, delivering a sweet, herbal, and peaty character.

The design of the 130 hand-blown decanters is inspired by the Venturi tunnels of the Aston Martin Valkyrie, an aerodynamic feature that enhances downforce and stability.

Bottled at 44.3% ABV, Bowmore ARC-54 is available starting today, priced at approximately €84,000£71,000.
