The Last Drop Distillers has announced its 2025 Collection, presenting three limited-edition spirits: a 27-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace, a 55-year-old single malt Scotch from Tomintoul, and a 22-year-old Japanese blended malt whisky from Hanyu.
Release No. 37: The Last Drop 27-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Sourced from three of Buffalo Trace’s oldest barrels, distilled in 1995, 1996, and 1997, this bourbon was carefully selected and blended by Master Blender Drew Mayville and Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley. The marriage of these barrels has resulted in an expression that retains vibrancy while showcasing the depth and complexity developed over decades of aging in Warehouse P.
- Distillery: Buffalo Trace
- ABV: 60.9% (121.8 proof)
- Bottles Released: 508
- Price: $10,500 (700mL bottle + 50mL miniature)
Tasting Notes:
The bourbon displays rich seasoned oak, cherry, and Medjool date aromas, followed by baking spices and a touch of peppery rye. The palate is layered with oak tannins, caramel, dark chocolate-dipped cherries, tobacco, and leather, leading to a long, warming finish with dried fruit, caramel, and tingling oak spice.
Release No. 38: The Last Drop 55-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch
A sister cask to The Last Drop Release No. 36, this 1969-distilled single malt was initially matured in ex-sherry butts and refill sherry hogsheads, then finished for two years in an ex-Matusalem sherry butt before bottling.
- Distillery: Tomintoul
- ABV: 43.1% (86.2 proof)
- Bottles Released: 430
- Price: $6,950 (750mL bottle + 50mL miniature)
Tasting Notes:
The whisky presents a deep amber hue with pinkish undertones. On the nose, red fruits, ripe peaches, toasted almonds, and warm toffee emerge. The palate is rich with juicy stone fruits, baking spices, liquorice, and grassy dryness, developing into pineapple upside-down cake and caramel. The finish is smooth, complex, and delicately balanced between sweetness and spice.
Release No. 39: The Last Drop 22-Year-Old Japanese Blended Malt
This rare Japanese whisky is composed of two Mizunara oak casks from the Hanyu Distillery, distilled in 2000—the year Hanyu ceased operations. Mizunara casks are known for their porous nature, imparting distinctive floral, herbal, and nutty characteristics.
- Distillery: Hanyu (closed in 2000)
- ABV: 59.1% (118.2 proof)
- Bottles Released: 319
- Price: $5,500 (750mL bottle + 50mL miniature)
Tasting Notes:
The nose is rich with sandalwood, nutmeg, all-spice, vanilla, and marzipan, evoking a sense of warmth and depth. On the palate, tropical fruits such as banana and coconut blend with red berries and subtle spice, creating a silky-smooth texture. The finish delivers cinnamon pastry, sweet spice, and a lingering warmth that gently fades.
