Blair Athol Distillery has announced the launch of Blair Athol 20 Year-Old, a limited-edition Highland single malt showcasing an innovative four-cask maturation. With only 1,002 bottles available, this release will be exclusively offered at the distillery from April 1, with wider online availability starting May 1.
This 20-year-old expression has been matured in refill casks and then part-finished in four different cask types: rejuvenated casks, wine-seasoned American oak, wine-seasoned European oak, and additional refill casks for balance. The result is a whisky with layers of tropical fruit, chocolate, nutty spice, and warming ginger cake notes.
Master Blender Stuart Morrison highlighted the whisky’s connection to Blair Athol’s legacy, stating:
“Some of the team that filled these experimental casks have since retired, yet we’re fortunate to uncover the whisky they laid down. This release honours that craftsmanship while creating something new, blending Blair Athol’s signature nutty spice with layers of fruit, vanilla, and aromatic wood.”
A launch event will take place on April 11 at Blair Athol Distillery, featuring a guided tasting led by Charles MacLean, Dani McCann, and Tod Bradbury. The event will include a tasting session, gourmet canapés, and live music. Tickets are priced at £55 and available via Malts.com.
Blair Athol 20 Year-Old (52.8% ABV) will retail for £400 (70cl).
