Ardbeg Trudernish: A New 15-Year-Old Joins the Core Range

Ardbeg has unveiled Ardbeg Trudernish, its first permanent 15-year-old single malt, bringing a softer, creamier dimension to the Islay distillery’s signature smoky character.

Inspired by the ancient settlement of Trudernish on Islay’s “Enchanted Cape”, the new expression has been matured for 15 years in a combination of bourbon, new charred oak and Oloroso sherry casks. The result is designed to offer a more mellow interpretation of Ardbeg’s characteristic peated style, balancing smoke with rich, creamy flavours.

Ardbeg Trudernish has already received recognition with a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2026.

According to local legends, the well at Trudernish — notoriously difficult to find — never freezes, even in winter. Ardbeg’s new whisky draws on that sense of discovery, revealing layers of flavour beneath its smoky exterior.

At 48.8% ABV, the whisky combines gentle smoke with a rich and silky profile. Aromas of woodsmoke, dried herbs and chocolate lime lead into flavours of vanilla, nuts and creamy fudge, with earthy peat providing a smoky backbone.

Dr Bill Lumsden MBE, Ardbeg’s Director of Whisky Creation, said:

“A new whisky is always a momentous occasion at Ardbeg – and our first permanent 15-year-old, Ardbeg Trudernish, is truly one to celebrate.”

He describes the whisky as combining Ardbeg’s signature smokiness with rich, creamy flavours, including peat, dark liquorice and nuts wrapped in milk chocolate, alongside a persistent thread of vanilla and a long smoky finish.

A New Look for Ardbeg

The launch of Ardbeg Trudernish also marks the introduction of a new visual identity across the distillery’s permanent core range, which will begin rolling out globally from autumn 2026.

The new packaging retains Ardbeg’s distinctive black presentation but introduces an individual earthy accent colour for each expression. Woodcut-style illustrations reference the stories behind each whisky, while the packaging also highlights its cask recipe and flavour profile.

The redesign is intended to make it easier for whisky drinkers to explore Ardbeg’s permanent range, from Ardbeg Ten to Ardbeg Uigeadail, while giving each expression a more distinctive visual identity.

Bryony McNiven, Ardbeg Distillery Manager, said the new designs bring together the stories and flavours of Islay while helping drinkers discover both familiar expressions and new favourites such as Trudernish.

Ardbeg Trudernish will be available from 15 September 2026 through Ardbeg’s website, Ardbeg Embassies, the Distillery Visitor Centre and selected specialist retailers.
