Ardbeg celebrates 25 years of its Committee with the release of Ardbeg Eureka!, a new Committee Exclusive whisky crafted through a unique experiment known as Operation Smokescreen. In 2023, a group of dedicated Committee Members participated in a blind tasting at the distillery, unknowingly shaping the final composition of this release. Their preference for Pedro Ximénez sherry cask maturation led Ardbeg’s Whisky Creation Team, led by Gillian Macdonald and Dr Bill Lumsden, to develop a whisky that embodies this flavour profile.
Ardbeg Eureka! is a marriage of PX sherry casks and roasted malt spirit matured in bourbon casks, bottled at 52.2% ABV. Tasting notes include juicy red apples, plump cherries, and Ardbeg’s signature smoke on the nose, while the palate brings nut toffee brittle, raisin fudge, and dark fruits, leading to a long, chewy finish with sweet treacle toffee and burning embers.
Founded in 2000, the Ardbeg Committee was established to ensure the distillery’s future remained secure. Over the past 25 years, it has grown into a global community of whisky enthusiasts, playing a key role in the brand’s identity and special releases. Ardbeg Eureka! will be available exclusively to Committee Members in the UK from 27th February via Ardbeg’s official website.
