Boann Distillery, a family-owned Irish whiskey producer based in County Meath, has announced the launch of its Boann Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey range in the United States. This move marks a significant step in the distillery’s global expansion, bringing its award-winning spirits to a wider audience.

Boann Distillery’s U.S. Expansion and Availability

The collection features three distinct cask finishes: Marsala, Madeira, and Pedro Ximénez (PX), each showcasing the depth and complexity that define Boann’s approach to Single Pot Still whiskey. These expressions join the brand’s Silks Irish Dry Gin and The Whistler Irish Whiskey portfolio, further solidifying Boann’s reputation as a premium Irish spirits producer.

Reviving the Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey Tradition

Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is a uniquely Irish style, crafted from a combination of malted and unmalted barley, triple-distilled for smoothness and complexity. It has a 160-year history in Ireland, particularly in the Boyne Valley, where Boann Distillery is located.

Pat Cooney, Managing Director and Founder of Boann Distillery, emphasized the significance of this launch:

“This is the beginning of a journey to bring Irish whiskey back to its rightful place as a global leader. Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is uniquely Irish, and we’re reviving the heritage of Ireland’s lost distilleries while uniting traditional methods with modern innovation.”

The Three Expressions: Marsala, Madeira, and Pedro Ximénez Cask Finishes

Each of the Boann Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey expressions is bottled at 47% ABV (94 Proof) and priced at $69 for a 700ml bottle. The collection highlights the influence of carefully selected casks, resulting in rich and complex flavor profiles:

Marsala Cask Finish

  • Initially matured for three years in heavily charred ex-bourbon barrels from Brown-Forman distilleries in Kentucky.
  • Finished in Superiore and Fine Marsala casks from Cantine deVinci in Sicily.
  • Tasting notes: Rich and viscous, with flavors of sweet marmalade, peppermint, and oak spices.
  • Awards: 92 points, Whisky Advocate.

Madeira Cask Finish

  • Aged first in charred ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in vintage Madeira casks from Justino’s, a renowned Madeira house.
  • Tasting notes: Velvety smooth with peaches and cream, vanilla, walnuts, and a delicate minerality.
  • Awards: 91 points, Whisky Advocate; Gold Medal, Irish Whiskey Awards.

Pedro Ximénez (PX) Cask Finish

  • Initially matured for 3.5 years in Oloroso Sherry hogsheads from Bodegas Garvey in Spain.
  • Finished in rare vintage PX Solera Chestnut and Oak casks from Malaga.
  • Tasting notes: Sweet and savory, featuring honey syrup, dark chocolate, crispy bacon, and white pepper.
  • Awards: 93 points, Whisky Advocate.

Premium Design and Sustainability

Each bottle in the Boann Single Pot Still range is expertly crafted to reflect the brand’s connection to nature and tradition. The bespoke bottle design features textures reminiscent of barley fields, oak tree bark, and charred casks, symbolizing the key elements of whiskey production: grain, water, and wood.

As an Origin Green Gold Member, Boann Distillery prioritizes sustainability. The distillery sources 100% natural, local ingredients, including water from the Boyne Valley well and barley from native farmers. Additionally, all by-products of distillation, such as spent grains and pot ale, are repurposed as animal feed.

The Future of Boann Distillery and Irish Whiskey

With this U.S. expansion, Boann Distillery continues its mission of bringing authentic Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey to a global audience. By blending heritage and innovation, the Cooney family is carving out a new legacy in Irish whiskey production.
