Tomintoul Single Malt Scotch Whisky has launched a limited edition 1966 Bourbon Cask No. 6077 expression, celebrating the distillery’s 60th anniversary and paying homage to its first distillery manager, Islay Shaw. This rare vintage release is a testament to Tomintoul’s handcrafted tradition and the exceptional influence of its Cairngorms National Park surroundings.
Distilled in October 1966 and matured in a specially commissioned American oak bourbon barrel, only 79 individually numbered crystal decanters of this whisky are available. Bottled at 40.3% ABV, it offers aromas of bright stone fruits, almond foam, Danish pastries, Chantilly cream, pear compote, and sweet spices, with a palate of cooked peach, apricot jam, toasted fennel seeds, muscovado sugar, coffee cake, and elegant spices. The finish is warm and inviting, featuring ginger biscuits, maple pecan pie, dates, mocha, cinnamon, and spiced pear.
Master Distiller Robert Fleming, a fourth-generation Speyside distiller, identified Cask No. 6077 as exceptional, overseeing its maturation to ensure the development of rich and elegant flavors. The whisky is presented in bespoke, individually numbered crystal decanters crafted by Glencairn Crystal Studio, each unique and finished with satin gold metal accents.
Available through select independent and specialist UK retailers, the Tomintoul 1966 Bourbon Cask No. 6077 is priced at £17,500 per 70cl bottle.
