In a landmark tribute to Robert Fleming’s 50-year career in the Scotch whisky industry, Tomintoul Distillery has unveiled a limited-edition 50-Year-Old Single Malt. This release celebrates Fleming’s lifetime dedication to the craft and showcases the expertise that has defined his tenure in whisky-making.
This exceptional single malt was distilled in 1973 and matured in a rare Pedro Ximénez Sherry barrique sourced from the prestigious Ximénez-Spinola bodega in Jerez, Spain. After five decades of aging, the whisky was bottled at natural cask strength (40.2% ABV), retaining its natural color. Limited to just 253 decanters, this release captures both the tradition and refinement that Fleming has championed during his career.
Robert Fleming, a fourth-generation Scotch whisky artisan from Speyside, began his journey in the industry in 1974. Joining Tomintoul Distillery in 1990, he has become synonymous with “the gentle dram,” a reputation built on the distillery’s commitment to crafting smooth and complex whiskies.
Reflecting on this milestone, Robert Fleming remarked:
“It’s truly special to have chosen this 50-year-old single malt in celebration of my 50 years in the whisky industry. Just as I have developed my craft and technique over that time, so have the characteristics of this amazing single malt, both in pursuit of perfection.”
He described the whisky as offering cooked berry fruits, fragrant maple syrup, and gentle warming spices, with notes of honey, nuts, chocolate, and sweet dessert flavors. The experience culminates in a long, elegant finish, epitomizing balance and indulgence.
The release was unveiled at an intimate launch event in Mayfair, where guests enjoyed an exclusive first tasting and heard Fleming reflect on his storied career. The whisky is presented in an elegant gold-accented decanter housed in a collector’s box adorned with Fleming’s signature, making it a coveted item for both enthusiasts and collectors.
The Tomintoul 50-Year-Old Robert Fleming Edition is available from select retailers in the UK, priced at £10,000 per 70cl bottle.
