Lochlea Distillery has announced an exciting new limited-edition release, the Lochlea Stout Cask Finish, set to launch on December 3rd, 2024. This innovative whisky is the result of a unique collaboration with Overtone Brewery, a Glasgow-based craft brewery, blending the art of brewing and distilling.
The partnership began when Lochlea provided six casks—a mix of bourbon barrels, STR barriques, and an Oloroso Sherry butt—to Overtone for maturing their rich, chocolatey double mash stout, “Overtone: Our Barley Aged.” After imparting the stout’s flavors, these seasoned casks returned to Lochlea, where they were filled with the distillery’s signature ‘Our Barley’ single malt and left to mature for a year.
The final release showcases the harmonious blend of these influences, with the Lochlea team selecting three standout casks for bottling.
The Lochlea Stout Cask Finish is bottled at 52% ABV and features a flavor profile described as buttery and sweet, with notes of shortbread, toasted barley, toffee, and tropical fruits. The finish is said to be long and silky, rich with fruit and cereal undertones, making it a distinctive addition to Lochlea’s growing portfolio.
Exclusively available in the UK, the Stout Cask Finish will retail at £59.99 through select stockists.
