The GlenAllachie, an award-winning Speyside single malt whisky brand, has unveiled its oldest and most prestigious release to date: The GlenAllachie 35-Year-Old.
This release marks a significant milestone for the distillery, which is led by renowned whisky maker Billy Walker. With over 52 years of experience, Walker has gained a reputation for his exceptional cask management and refined sensory skills. The GlenAllachie 35-Year-Old, priced at £1,479 (UK RRSP), embodies the distillery’s commitment to crafting boutique, small-batch whiskies.
For this landmark release, Walker meticulously selected six outstanding casks containing whisky distilled in the summer of 1989. The whisky was matured in a combination of three Pedro Ximénez, one Oloroso, and two virgin oak casks, creating a rich and complex flavor profile. The GlenAllachie describes this whisky as offering “a luscious symphony of rich mocha, ripe pineapple, sweet spices, and treacle tart.”
The presentation of this 35-year-old whisky is as luxurious as its contents. The whisky is encased in an oak box with hand-carved details, lined with moleskin-colored fabric, and features a solid brass ‘angle’ plaque that highlights the cask selection. The decanter is wide-shouldered, with gold ink detailing, and comes with a handmade wooden stopper, showcasing the brand’s tagline, ‘whisky in good hands’. Accompanying the whisky is a booklet with Walker’s handwritten notes, printed on FSC-certified paper made from spent malt.
Bottled at 48% ABV, non-chill filtered, and with natural color, The GlenAllachie 35-Year-Old is designed to let the whisky’s true character shine.
In celebration of this historic release, Walker recently hosted an intimate pre-launch dinner for media and trade representatives, where he shared his thoughts on the new expression:
“The 35-year-old is a testament to The GlenAllachie’s dedication, patience, and relentless pursuit of perfection. Unifying the six spectacular casks has created the perfect equilibrium between the sweet influence of Pedro Ximénez, the nutty contribution of Oloroso, and the spiciness of the virgin oak. The amalgamation entails a truly spectacular single malt with opulent notes of spiced caramel, rich espresso, tropical fruits, and dark chocolate truffles. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a bottle, it’s a whisky to be treasured.”
The GlenAllachie 35-Year-Old is now available at select specialist retailers worldwide.
