Starward x Lagavulin single malt to launch in the UK

Australian distillery Starward has partnered with Speciality Brands to introduce Starward x Lagavulin to the UK market, more than two years after the whisky’s original debut in late 2023.

The limited edition single malt is finished in ex-Lagavulin peated Scotch whisky casks from Islay, sourced from the Diageo-owned Lagavulin Distillery. The collaboration marries Starward’s signature red wine barrel-matured Australian whisky — known for its tropical red berry fruit, soft spice and vanilla notes — with the earthy, coastal peat influence of Lagavulin.

Bottled at 48% ABV, the whisky opens with aromas of yellow nectarine, peat, pineapple and iodine. On the palate, it delivers flavours of char-grilled tropical pineapple, black tea and a touch of brine, balancing sweetness with maritime smokiness.

Commenting on the release, David Vitale, founder of Starward Distillery, said: “My earliest inspiration for Starward was to create a deliciously distinctive whisky, and while we certainly hit that brief with our red wine barrel-matured whisky, what whisky better epitomises distinctively delicious than Lagavulin?

“Sourcing these barrels to create this exciting expression gives us a magical moment to celebrate the very best of Australian curiosity and Scottish tradition.”

Starward x Lagavulin will be available in the UK from March through selected on- and off-trade partners via Speciality Brands, with a recommended retail price of £125 (US$169).
