Mortlach: A Distinguished Heritage
With its inception dating back to 1823, Mortlach stands as the venerable elder among Dufftown’s esteemed distilleries. Often referred to as the “Beast of Dufftown,” Mortlach’s whisky is celebrated for its bold, meaty flavors, setting it apart from the typically milder malts of the region. The distillery‘s production process is as intricate as its flavors, featuring a diverse array of stills, each of varying sizes, and a unique combination of triple and double distillation techniques, resulting in an average of 2.81 distillations per batch. Despite its distinctive character, Mortlach remains somewhat lesser-known compared to its counterparts, owing largely to its pivotal role in supplying the renowned Johnnie Walker brand.
