Macallan Unveils 73-Year-Old Red Collection Whisky, Dating Back to 1950

The Macallan, renowned for its legacy of crafting exquisite single malts, has introduced a new gem to its prestigious Red CollectionThe Macallan 73 Years Old. This latest addition continues the storied history of the Red Collection, celebrated for its ultra-aged and rare whiskies.

A Legacy of Red

The Red Collection is deeply rooted in the historical significance of the color red to The Macallan. The story begins with Alexander Reid, the founder whose surname means “the red one” in Scots. This legacy was further cemented in 1903 when proprietor Roderick Kemp used red print on cases to distinguish The Macallan’s exceptional whiskies. Today, the Red Collection honors this tradition, featuring some of the oldest and rarest whiskies ever released by the distillery, with age statements ranging from 40 to 78 years.

Exquisite Packaging

The presentation of The Macallan 73 Years Old is as exceptional as the whisky itself. Each bottle is encased in a handcrafted oak presentation box, made from the same European oak used for the whisky’s casks. The box is upholstered with sustainably sourced red leather from Bridge of Weir Leather, and the bottle rests on an oak plinth crafted from repurposed cask end pieces, making each piece unique.

Whisky Maker’s Notes
