Laphroaig has announced the second release in its Archive Collection — Laphroaig The Archive Collection: 38 Years Old, following the 36-year-old edition released in late 2023.
This rare whisky dates back to a period before Laphroaig’s major renovation in the mid-1980s, which introduced new stills and condensers. As such, the 38-year-old expression is one of the final whiskies produced using the distillery’s traditional production methods.
The whisky underwent a complex maturation process:
- Initially aged in first-fill American bourbon barrels
- Further matured in second-fill oloroso sherry hogsheads
- Finished in a European oak cask seasoned with oloroso sherry
Only 400 bottles of Laphroaig The Archive Collection: 38 Years Old are available globally, each priced at €4,760. Members of the Friends of Laphroaig programme were given early access via an exclusive ballot ahead of the general release on 12 June 2025.
This release continues Laphroaig’s celebration of its historic past, offering a glimpse into the distillery’s pre-renovation character through one of its oldest and rarest single malts to date.
