Following the successful launch of its first whisky in 2023, Isle of Harris Distillery has introduced its second permanent expression, The Hearach Oloroso Cask Matured. This new release is aged exclusively in first-fill oloroso sherry butts, adding a rich layer of complexity to the distillery’s lightly peated spirit.
Distillery managing director Simon Erlanger shared his excitement about this new milestone, stating: “After years of careful development, it’s finally time to share the next expression of The Hearach with the world — marking another milestone just one year after the outstanding success of the inaugural launch.”
The Hearach Oloroso Cask Matured offers a unique tasting profile, featuring notes of orange peel, spices, fireside smoke, and toasted hazelnuts, with the influence of the oloroso sherry casks shining through. Bottled at 46% ABV, the whisky is non-chill filtered, ensuring the spirit’s natural qualities are preserved.
Erlanger also emphasized the connection between the distillery and sherry makers José y Miguel Martín of Andalusia, highlighting the shared dedication to craft and the cultural bond between the two communities.
The Isle of Harris Distillery, which opened in 2015, continues to make waves in the whisky world, with its inaugural release in 2023 marking the first-ever legal whisky to be produced on the Isle of Harris. The Hearach Oloroso Cask Matured is now available for purchase via the Isle of Harris Distillery and select retailers, with an RRP of £75.
