The Highland distillery Fettercairn has unveiled The Vanguard Series, a new three-year collection designed to explore how people experience flavour in different ways.
For Master Whisky Maker Gregg Glass, this exploration is deeply personal. A synaesthete, Glass experiences whisky through both taste and colour:
“In the development of any whisky, it’s a new experience. I tend to pick up sensory elements, particularly linking colour and texture to the flavour and character of the whisky. I capture that in my tasting notes, which show how the colours I experience change as the flavour of the whisky evolves.”
The Vanguard Series debuts with two striking new expressions:
- Fettercairn Vanguard 29 Year Old
- Distilled 11 December 1995
- Matured 25 years in a refill Bourbon hogshead
- Finished in a French pink oak cask from Bordeaux’s Demptos cooperage
- Only 99 bottles worldwide | £2,500 each
- Fettercairn Vanguard 1st Release
- Aged 14 years in ex-Bourbon casks
- Further matured in hybrid casks made from American oak staves with heavily toasted Scottish oak heads (sourced from wind-felled Highland oak)
- Bottled at 46.3% ABV | £100
Both whiskies are available from 1 September 2025 through selected specialist retailers worldwide.
With The Vanguard Series, Fettercairn invites whisky lovers to discover new dimensions of flavour – and to explore how our senses shape the way we experience whisky.
