Exciting Times Ahead: The Rebirth of The Cabrach in Speyside

The Cabrach Distillery in Speyside is set to make a historic return to whisky production after a hiatus of more than 170 years. Located in the remote Cabrach area of north-east Scotland, the distillery will commence spirit production in August, marking a significant milestone in its construction journey.

The distillery is led by the Cabrach Trust, a community interest company focused on wider regeneration efforts in the Cabrach region. Historically known for its cultural significance in illicit whisky production, the Cabrach area has faced economic challenges and depopulation, making the revival of whisky production a pivotal part of its regeneration strategy.

Located at Inverharroch Farm, the development features restored 19th-century stone steadings that will house not only the distillery but also a café and heritage center. The distillery aims to produce single malt whisky using traditional methods, with production limited to small batches overseen by Alan Winchester, the former master distiller of The Glenlivet.

Jonathan Christie, CEO of the Cabrach Trust, emphasized the significance of the distillery in the region’s revitalization efforts, highlighting its potential to create local employment opportunities and attract tourists interested in exploring the area’s rich history and natural beauty.

In anticipation of its opening, the Cabrach Distillery has launched the Cabrach Collective, a membership program limited to 1,849 members in honor of the original distillery’s founding year in 1849. The Collective offers exclusive benefits, including access to unique bottlings like the inaugural Cabrach single malt and Collective-only releases.

The distillery has also unveiled its debut whisky offering, the Feering, a blended malt curated by Alan Winchester. The Feering Early Harvest Edition, the first release in the Feering series, comprises whiskies from four neighboring Speyside distilleries and is available for purchase at select retailers.
