Bushmills has unveiled the latest addition to its Prestige Single Malt Collection: the 26 Year Old Crystal Malt, joining its revered lineup of 25, 30, and 31-year-old single malts. This new release is crafted using exclusively Crystal Malt barley, which undergoes a process that crystallizes the sugars during malting. This unique method imparts intense caramel and creamy chocolate flavors, preserved throughout its 26-year maturation in oak barrels.
Master Blender Alex Thomas, who has overseen the whiskey’s aging process, expressed her pride in the release:
“Releasing this special expression – one I’ve cared for throughout my entire career here – is truly a dream come true. Our 26 Year Old Crystal Malt epitomizes Bushmills’ commitment to restless progress and our dedication to crafting exceptional single malts for whiskey lovers worldwide.”
Bushmills first distilled Crystal Malt in 1997, a pioneering step in Irish whiskey production. The whiskey has since matured in first-fill bourbon casks from the Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky. The result is a whiskey that combines Bushmills’ signature fruity complexity with layers of chocolate and caramel from the Crystal Malt and depth from its long maturation.
Bottled at 46% ABV, the Bushmills 26 Year Old Crystal Malt is priced at £850 (€1,000 or $1,075). It will be available from the end of 2024 directly at the Bushmills Distillery, on shop.bushmills.com for UK and Irish consumers, and at key global travel retail hubs. Broader availability in Irish and global markets will follow in early 2025.
For collectors and connoisseurs, this release represents a continuation of Bushmills’ pursuit of innovation and excellence, solidifying its place at the forefront of Irish whiskey.
