Ballantine’s has unveiled the second chapter in its Masterclass Collection, a series celebrating the expertise of its five master blenders, past and present. Titled “The Waiting,” this release reflects the patience and precision required to craft high-aged Scotch whisky.
Crafted by Sandy Hyslop, Ballantine’s current master blender, this 40-year-old blend draws from casks laid down by former master blender Jack Goudy, paying homage to his teachings. With American oak maturation, the whisky offers a rich depth of flavor featuring smooth, sweet tones and a gentle hint of smoke. Bottled at cask strength (45.4% ABV), this expression provides a truly powerful sensory experience.
Hyslop remarked on the intricate artistry involved in crafting such a whisky:
“Time brings distinction to a whisky, but it also brings huge responsibility… You need patience, passion, and dedication to find the precise moment when a whisky reaches its peak.”

Presented in individually numbered bottles, “The Waiting” is packaged in an elegant box with an intricate 3D paper art piece by Scottish artist Kyla McCallum, making it a collector’s masterpiece. With only 108 bottles available globally, this rare release embodies the legacy and meticulous craftsmanship of Ballantine’s.
The Masterclass Collection Chapter Two retails for $12,000.
