Aberargie Distillery, based in Perthshire, has announced the launch of its Inaugural Single Malt, signalling the Morrison family’s long-awaited return to distilling and introducing a true barley-to-bottle release crafted entirely on their family-owned farm.
Aberargie Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Inaugural Release (48.2% ABV) is a non-age-stated single malt produced using barley grown across the distillery’s 300-acre farm — comprising 52% Golden Promise and 48% Laureate barley. The whisky has been matured in a combination of first-fill Bourbon and first-fill Sherry casks, creating a rich and layered character.
Situated on the border between the Highland and Lowland regions, Aberargie defies easy stylistic classification. Its identity is shaped as much by its agricultural setting as by its stillhouse, which stands prominently before rolling barley fields. As an independent, family-run operation, the distillery oversees every stage of production on-site — from cultivation and distillation to warehousing and bottling.
The whisky is described as full and expressive, offering notes of baked apple and golden pastry, balanced by succulent sultanas and prunes, and finishing with lingering herbal undertones.
The packaging and visual identity were developed in collaboration with Kingdom & Sparrow, drawing inspiration from Aberargie’s rural location, its copper pot stills and its production philosophy. The result is a timeless presentation featuring a bespoke glass bottle with embossed lettering and a commemorative leather neck tag marking the inaugural release.
Commenting on the launch, Niel Hendriksz, Managing Director of Aberargie Distillery, said: “Our first casks were laid down in 2017, and we’ve been patiently waiting for our whisky to be ready. After nearly a decade, the moment feels right to share Aberargie Single Malt Inaugural with the world. It’s a true barley-to-bottle single malt that honours the Morrison family’s distilling heritage while setting a clear direction for the future.”
Aberargie Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Inaugural Release will be available from March 3rd through selected specialist retailers at a recommended retail price of £65.00.
