A milestone moment for the northernmost mainland distillery in Scotland: Wolfburn has released its first official 12-year-old single malt, now available in the UK and likely heading to Germany soon.
The whisky is matured in a 50/50 combination of second-fill Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels, and bottled at 46% ABV. Wolfburn describes it as its new “flagship expression”, showcasing the character that has defined the distillery since its modern revival in 2013.
According to the distillery:
“12 Year Old is Wolfburn’s flagship expression. Crafted from spirit matured in equal proportions in second-fill Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks, twelve years of maturation in our warehouses has created a delightfully smooth, deeply flavoured whisky – a showcase of the skill, dedication and patience of our master distillers.”

- Nose: A beautiful combination of sweet and floral aromas, interwoven with a subtle thread of peaty smoke.
- Palate: Wonderful depth of flavour. Honey and burnt sugar merge with gentle spices, all wrapped in a prominent sherry-driven sweetness.
- Finish: Long, lasting and delicious, with notes of dried fruit and caramel that linger to the very end.
