Old Pulteney has marked its 200th anniversary with the release of two exceptional limited-edition single malts: the oldest whisky in the distillery’s history, Old Pulteney 50 Year Old, and the newly unveiled Old Pulteney 30 Year Old.
Crafted and matured at the historic Wick distillery on Scotland’s rugged north coast, both expressions showcase the maritime character that has defined Old Pulteney for two centuries.
The headline release is the Old Pulteney 50 Year Old (40.8% ABV), drawn from just four casks, primarily American oak with a touch of European oak influence. The whisky opens with aromas of sea air, cask char, plum jam, green apples, vanilla, toasted bread with marmalade, and subtle leather notes. The palate delivers layers of salt, pepper, toffee apple, cardamom, clove, sweet tobacco, and charred oak.
Presented in a handcrafted crystal decanter created by Glencairn Crystal, the release is limited to just 200 bottles worldwide, making it the rarest Old Pulteney expression ever released.
Joining it is the Old Pulteney 30 Year Old (50.4% ABV), matured in a combination of American and European oak casks. The whisky offers aromas of sugared almonds, pear, green apple, citrus, leather, tobacco, and polished oak. On the palate, notes of crisp pear, salted caramel, baked apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, and delicate floral tones are balanced by the distillery’s signature coastal influence.
Adding to its significance, the casks used for the 30-year-old expression were personally filled three decades ago by Distillery Manager Malcolm Waring.
Both releases were selected by Sarah Burgess, Master of Whisky Creation, who sought to create whiskies that celebrate not only the distillery’s milestone anniversary but also its unique maritime heritage.
The Old Pulteney 50 Year Old is limited to 200 bottles with an RRP of £20,000, while the Old Pulteney 30 Year Old is limited to 1,000 bottles and carries an RRP of £1,750.
