Vermont-based independent bottler Lost Lantern has announced one of the most ambitious American whiskey projects ever undertaken: United States of Bourbon, a collection of three limited-edition releases celebrating the diversity and evolution of Bourbon across the United States.
The headline release, Lost Lantern United States of Bourbon (50% ABV), is believed to be the first blend of straight Bourbon whiskeys sourced from all 50 US states. The blend combines Bourbons aged between two and ten years, creating a whiskey that showcases the remarkable breadth of American distilling. Official tasting notes highlight aromas of vanilla, nutmeg, clove, and wood spice, followed by flavors of chocolate, raspberry, and orange zest.
For those seeking a more intense experience, United States of Bourbon Cask Strength (61.5% ABV) offers the same 50-state blend at natural strength. The whiskey delivers notes of vanilla and oak spice on the nose, with layers of black raspberry, dark chocolate, leather, and rich oak on the palate.
Completing the lineup is the United States of Bourbon 1776 Edition (60.7% ABV), a special cask-strength blend created to commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. This expression combines Bourbons from the original 13 states that formed the nation in 1776, offering aromas of orange zest, dark chocolate, walnuts, and spice, followed by notes of fruit, fresh-baked bread, leather, and warming oak.
The project has been more than five years in the making. Lost Lantern founders Nora Ganley-Roper and Adam Polonski traveled extensively throughout the country, visiting distilleries and selecting barrels that would represent each state’s unique whiskey identity.
“The United States of Bourbon has truly been years in the making and has been part of the vision for Lost Lantern since before we launched the company,” said Adam Polonski. “We wanted to showcase the incredible diversity and breadth of Bourbon being produced across America today.”
The collection highlights how Bourbon production has expanded far beyond its traditional heartlands, now thriving everywhere from Alaska and Hawaii to Vermont and Texas.
