Lochlea Distillery — an independent, single-estate, family-run whisky producer in Ayrshire, Scotland — unveils the final release in its acclaimed collaboration with Overtone Brewery. Fully grown, distilled and matured on-site, this new whisky underlines Lochlea’s commitment to local ingredients, sustainable practices, and complete in-house maturation.
The partnership with Overtone Brewery, a leading Glasgow craft brewer, began with shared casks used to mature Overtone’s stout, before being returned to Lochlea for whisky finishing. This final UK-exclusive release, Over & Stout, comprises just five casks:
- 3 stout-seasoned casks (2 ex-Bourbon barrels, 1 STR barrique),
- 1 first-fill Bourbon barrel,
- 1 ex-peated Bourbon barrel.
Another full year of additional maturation has deepened the stout-driven earthy and chocolatey notes, while amplifying Lochlea’s signature sweet vanilla, creamy texture, and gentle smoke. The casks have been carefully married to deliver a profile that is both familiar to Overtone followers yet distinct and evolved.

This year, we brought together the remaining three stout casks — each with an extra 12 months of maturation — resulting in a richer, fruitier dram with even more of that stouty goodness. This limited release is non-chill filtered and natural in colour, bottled at 52% ABV to preserve its full character.
