Salud Spirits, a renowned Dutch spirits distributor, is excited to announce the release of the fifth edition in the Chichibu 7even Gods of Fortune series: Fukurokuju. This highly anticipated release continues the tradition of excellence established by the previous editions—Ebisu, Hotei, Bishamonten, and Benzaitan—each named after a deity revered in Japanese culture since the Middle Ages.
A Unique Single Malt Experience
The Chichibu Fukurokuju is an exceptional 8-year-old single malt whisky, aged in a first-fill Bourbon cask and bottled at a robust 61% ABV. This release, made with Odyssey barley, offers whisky enthusiasts a rich and complex flavor profile. The nose is characterized by floral and fruity aromas intertwined with notes of icing sugar and traditional Dutch oliebollen. On the palate, an explosion of tropical fruits such as pineapple, papaya, and guava is complemented by spicy peppery undertones. The finish is medium-length, leaving a delightful impression of sultry summer fruits.
Symbolism and Artistry
Named after Fukurokuju, the god of wealth and longevity, this edition brings a wealth of flavors and a lasting finish. Fukurokuju is often depicted with an elongated forehead and accompanied by symbols of longevity such as a crane and a turtle. This Japanese whisky not only captures the essence of this deity but also comes with stunning digital artwork by Robbin Snijders, the artist behind Warbb. The hyper-realistic and dreamy art enhances the packaging, making each bottle a visual and sensory masterpiece.
Limited Availability and Exclusive Auction
With only 188 bottles available, the Chichibu Fukurokuju is a limited-edition release exclusive to Salud Spirits. In line with the benevolent nature of the Seven Gods of Fortune, Salud Spirits will celebrate this release with a special benefit event in partnership with the Japanese Consulate in The Hague, Netherlands. The benefit will support Second Harvest Japan, a charity dedicated to providing food access to those in need.
At the event, a second bottle of Fukurokuju, along with other exclusive Chichibu bottlings such as Spirits of Salud and Chichibu Red Wine Cask 2023, will be auctioned. Winners of the auction might even have the unique opportunity to get their bottles signed by Ichiro Akuto, the founder of Chichibu distillery.
The Chichibu 7even Gods of Fortune series, launched in 2022, will continue to captivate whisky lovers until 2025, with each new release bringing a unique blend of tradition, innovation, and artistry. Salud Spirits’ commitment to quality and their collaborative efforts with talented artists like Robbin Snijders ensure that each bottle is not just a drink but an experience.
