Holyrood Distillery has unveiled the first release in its new Re-Rack Series, an experimental collection of single malts showcasing innovative cask maturation techniques. Re-Rack #1, the debut expression, highlights Holyrood’s bold approach to crafting whisky, focusing on maximizing flavor through strategic re-casking.
Limited to just 227 bottles, Re-Rack #1 offers whisky enthusiasts an exclusive opportunity to explore Holyrood’s distinctive style.
Distillery Manager Calum Rae explained the ethos behind the series: “This is all about the casks. Re-racking lets us move the liquid to a second cask, bringing in new characteristics and amping up the flavor. No flowery language—just a simple, effective process.”
Re-Rack #1 begins its journey in a first-fill bourbon cask before being re-casked into a rum barrique, resulting in a single malt with unique layers of flavor. Crafted with Distiller Yeast DY502, the whisky balances a light, neutral profile with subtle fruity and cereal-like qualities.
