Glenfarclas has unveiled the third edition of its highly anticipated annual decanter series, featuring a rare 24-year-old single malt. The whisky comes from cask number 12, filled on 1 January 2000 by Glenfarclas chairman John Grant, and bottled at 47.4% ABV on 30 July 2024.
This year’s release marks a special moment in the decanter series, offering whisky lovers a glimpse of a turn-of-the-millennium spirit. Limited to only 600 decanters in the UK, it follows the 2022 debut of a 25-year-old bottled at natural cask strength and a 20-year-old Port pipe edition released in 2023.
The whisky is presented in a Glencairn crystal decanter, reflecting Glenfarclas’ decades-long partnership with the renowned Scottish glassmaker. Each edition in the series is designed to represent the five generations of the Glenfarclas family.
Priced between £450 and £550, the 24-year-old offers what Peter Donnelly, spirits director of Pol Roger Portfolio, describes as an “affordable collectible price point.” Donnelly also shared that the planning and creation process for these decanters typically takes around five to six months, with an emphasis on bottling outstanding quality whisky.
Looking ahead, the fourth decanter will be released in 2025, with the final one coming out in 2026. Collectors who complete the series can expect a special surprise after all five decanters are released.
