Glen Scotia has released the second expression in its Icons of Campbeltown series, continuing its tribute to the rich heritage of Campbeltown, once known as the “Victorian Whisky Capital of the World.” The five-part, limited-edition annual series takes inspiration from the 14th-century Market Cross in Campbeltown, featuring carvings of saints, beasts, and legendary figures.
The latest release, Icons of Campbeltown: Release No. 2, is a 14-year-old medium-peated single malt, bottled at 56.8% ABV. After aging in American oak, it was finished for six months in Barolo red wine casks, resulting in a smoky whisky with notes of red candied fruits, berries, and a subtle maritime salinity. The whisky is priced at £98
The packaging, designed by Joel Holtzman, draws inspiration from the Saint Michael legend, depicting the Archangel slaying a fire-breathing dragon, a nod to the fires that once ravaged Campbeltown’s distilleries.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Ocean spray, red berries, peat smoke
- Palate: Melted brown sugar, raspberry, cranberry, apple, vanilla
- Finish: Long, with red cherries and swirling peat smoke
This expression is available on the Glen Scotia website and through select retailers worldwide.
