Speyside distiller Glen Moray has expanded its renowned Warehouse 1 collection with two new additions: Glen Moray Rioja Matured and Glen Moray Peated Rioja Finish. Known for housing the distillery’s most experimental and adventurous whiskies, Warehouse 1 welcomes these innovative releases that showcase the team’s creativity and expertise.
Rioja Matured
The first new release, Glen Moray Rioja Matured, has been aged for eight years in Rioja red wine casks sourced from Spain. This expression offers a full-bodied take on Speyside whisky, characterized by deep and fruity notes of cherries, plums, and leather. Brand ambassador Iain Allan described it as “a dram as rich as it is rare,” highlighting its unique flavor profile resulting from the Rioja cask maturation.
Peated Rioja Finish
The second addition, Glen Moray Peated Rioja Finish, is an 11-year-old whisky that initially matured in bourbon casks before undergoing a finishing period in Rioja casks. This lightly peated expression balances gentle smoke with rich, plummy flavors, providing a fascinating twist on Glen Moray’s traditional style. Allan noted, “With its gentle smoke and plummy tastes, Glen Moray Peated Rioja Finish is a fascinatingly different take on Glen Moray.”
Experimental Heritage
These releases continue Glen Moray’s tradition of cask experimentation, following in the footsteps of the distillery’s Explorer range. Allan emphasized the collection’s appeal to curious whisky enthusiasts: “The whiskies of our Warehouse 1 Collection are among some of our most intriguing and experimental single malts.”
Availability
Glen Moray 2012 Peated Rioja Finish (58.8% ABV) and Glen Moray 2015 Rioja Matured (59.8% ABV) will be available in limited quantities across the UK, US, and select international markets, as well as directly from the Glen Moray Distillery.
