Buffalo Trace Distillery has unveiled the second edition of its Prohibition Collection, a limited-edition set of five whiskeys that pay tribute to brands legally produced during the Prohibition era (1920–1933). As one of only six distilleries granted a federal license to produce medicinal whiskey during this period, Buffalo Trace has a unique historical legacy to celebrate.
The five expressions in Prohibition Collection #2 draw inspiration from archival documents and offer modern recreations of whiskeys that shaped the distillery’s history. Each bottle is packaged in Prohibition-era style, complete with authentic details such as prescription cut-outs on the cartons.
The Five Expressions:
- Mirror Brook: A bottled-in-bond blend of Kentucky Straight Whiskeys at 100 proof. It features notes of ripe cherries, oak, rye spice, creamy vanilla, and chocolate.
- Very Oldest Procurable (V.O.P.): An uncut, unfiltered barrel-proof bourbon with an intense rye spice, toasted oak, vanilla, and a warm honeyed finish.
- Anderson’s Belle: A 100-proof wheated bourbon with aromas of caramel and maple, followed by rich vanilla, charred oak, and subtle dried fruit undertones.
- Old Fashioned Mountain Corn: A 110-proof Kentucky Straight Corn Whiskey emphasizing corn sweetness, deep caramel, and toasted oak.
- Silver Wedding Rye Whiskey: A 125-proof rye whiskey with a balance of vanilla, toffee, earthy leather, and pronounced rye spice.
Honoring Prohibition History
Harlen Wheatley, Buffalo Trace’s Master Distiller, highlighted the distillery’s enduring legacy through Prohibition under Albert B. Blanton’s leadership. Andrew Duncan, Global Brand Director, added that this collection invites enthusiasts to explore forgotten stories and celebrate Buffalo Trace’s commitment to tradition and innovation.
Collector’s Packaging
The whiskeys are presented in a custom wooden display case featuring historic distillery images. The collection also includes a unique collaboration with Scandinavian Tobacco Group: a companion set of five cigars, packaged to mirror the whiskey collection. Each cigar box is individually numbered, adding to its collectible appeal.
