A Tribute to Brora’s Legacy

The Brora 44-Year-Old Untold Depths is a testament to the distillery’s long history. Distilled in 1977, this whisky has been patiently aged for 44 years in Brora’s renowned Warehouse No.1. Bottled from single cask #2637 at a cask strength of 49.1% ABV, only 150 bottles are available, making it a highly sought-after release for collectors and aficionados.

Dr. Craig Wilson, Master Blender, describes this exceptional whisky: “The second in a series of releases from the distillery, ‘Untold Depths’ is a classic pairing of a gentle cask and medium peating, exploring the full depth of taste of which Brora is capable. The nose reveals waxy hints of fragrant incense and green grape skins through light peat smoke, with dried herb and scented oil rising through a swirl of buttery toffee. The taste is waxy-smooth, sweet, and lightly fruity, leading to a long, fragrant finish with a pinch of white pepper.

The New Age of Peat

Brora’s return marks the beginning of a new era. The distillery, known for its peated whisky between 1969 and 1981, is revisiting this “Age of Peat” in its new productions. The whisky currently maturing in the 2021 casks is a recreation of Brora’s traditional peated style, heralding a ‘New Age of Peat’ for the distillery.

A Historic Comeback

Brora Distillery, located in the Scottish Highlands, was mothballed in 1983 during the infamous Whisky Loch period. However, in 2017, Diageo announced plans to restore and reopen Brora along with Port Ellen Distillery on Islay. Following a substantial investment, Brora reopened in 2021, launching the Brora Triptych to mark the occasion.

Andrew Flatt, Brora Distillery Host, shared his excitement: “This year marks a historic milestone, as our new make spirit officially becomes scotch whisky. Guests visiting our distillery will be among the first to sample this whisky in over forty years. It’s an honor to present three different styles of spirit to aficionados, collectors, and fans of Brora.
